ARTWORKS AT DESIGN CENTRE CHELSEA HARBOUR

The root of my father's business is in silk, from 1962 producing silk scarves, an everyday must-have.  And whilst I love and have continued the tradition, my dream to relaunch his company was based in the art, making limited edition prints curated from the Richard Allan 1960s-70s archive of scarf designs.

It has been a truly joyful project, reconnecting with the aesthetics of my childhood - my father's eye for colour and design touched every area of our lives, from the interior decoration of our home to visiting the Richard Allan showroom, to an ever present awareness that he brought of architecture, the lines of everyday objects, to fashion - I endeavoured to bring a collection of artworks to honour my father's historic renown as well as to introduce new lines.

I loved the idea of presenting a cohesive body of art as if I was shaping a scarf collection. To explain: choosing six designs (hard in itself as spoilt for choice) I reworked colours to create three different versions of each design that would be versatile for contemporary interiors: the prints can be hung Warhol-esque as three of one design or you can select from 6 designs across a colour way, pinks or blue/greens or monochrome.

The framed artworks are bold abstracts, just off a metre square, printed on museum-grade Hahnemuehle paper with edition runs limited to 100; each print is signed, numbered and embossed with Richard Allan’s original company seal, providing provenance and a mark of our heritage.  The colours are at once bright and soft, natural hues, gorgeous combinations, which sit beautifully on neutral walls or wallpaper.  They don't dominate, but they definitely add an individual dimension to rooms, and using the themed colour lines, blend with each other to highlight your own schemes.

And just to say, we welcome bespoke projects, we are happy to resize prints to suit your space, and add additional colour ways to work with your interiors palette - just let us know.

Currently showing at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, its a perfect home for our interiors collections, limited edition prints and silk cushions.
