Richard Allan designed silk scarves, an every day essential of the time. He established his business, Richard Allan Scarves in Mayfair in 1962 and produced an exceptional range and quantity of scarves during the 1960s and '70s. Richard left an extensive archive of designs which Cate Allan (daughter) is now reworking for both fashion and interiors, having launched with new silk scarves, then limited edition design prints (artworks on paper) and most recently, silk and velvet cushions.
Designs are carefully chosen from our 1960s~70s archive and curated to form cohesive contemporary collections, for silk scarves as well as for interiors.
All our products are designed in London and made in England: we pride ourselves on keeping all production within the UK not just from a carbon footprint perspective, though this is extremely important to us, but also to maintain our tradition. In the 1960s-70s Richard Allan made scarves in Kent and we continue to produce everything in UK and value our heritage status, a truly British brand. Cate is in contact with the studios regularly and has close working relationships with each.
Our scarf print studio holds GOTS certification for silk production (Global Organic Textile Standard).
The paper print studio is part of the 'Green Rooster' initiative working towards reforestation, animal protection and environmental education.
Our cushion covers are handmade by our skilled seamstress in pure silk and cotton velvet; some silks are upcycled from offcuts, others are recycled samples and scarves. Our cushion fillings are anti allergy, eco friendly and sustainable British sheep's wool, encased in 100% cotton. Each cushion is fastened with antique, vintage or collectible buttons.
We strive for all items in our collections to be made with at least 90% natural, non-synthetic materials or ingredients - e.g. silk, wool, cotton.
Our packaging is fully recyclable, biodegradable or compostable packaging.
